Chanhassen’s vibrant quality of life makes it a destination to live, work and play. The current recreation center opened its doors in 1995 and since that time, Chanhassen’s population has doubled, and the current facility no longer meets the needs of the community. Now, a new community center is in the early phases of design, with BKV creating a wellness, recreation, and events destination to serve people of every age, at every stage of life.

Client: City of Chanhassen
Type: Community Sports & Recreation
Size: Proposed programs include: Indoor Walking Track, Two Sheets of Ice, Ice Arena doubling as Multi-Purpose Venue Space, Fieldhouse with Sport Courts & Turf, Indoor Playground, Dance & Fitness Studio, Community Rooms, Restaurant

Chanhassen councilmembers overwhelmingly voiced support for the approved option which creates a two-level concept that balances cost, efficiency, and amenities.

The concept’s openness and flow, welcoming lobby, two full hockey rinks, better-sized community rooms, and indoor playground off the main entrance were the noteworthy aspects highlighted, in addition to the Center’s strong gathering spaces and flexibility for weddings, events, and community use.
