Honoring BKV Group Structural Leaders During Women in Construction Week

During Women in Construction Week (and as part of International Women’s Day), BKV Group was proud to share two in-depth articles celebrating our Directors of Structural Engineering in Minneapolis and DC.

The first was an REJournals article focused on career perseverance and growth through an in-depth interview with BKV’s Director of Structural Engineering and Senior Associate, Siobhan Dvergsten (image below; on left).

“As more women succeed in this business, the more women are championed and feel valued. This diversity will enhance an already great and important industry.”

In discussing her career hurdles and advice to women working in the industry, Siobhan also stated, “I believe the flexibility women bring to the table has had a positive influence on team functioning overall, especially when it comes to inclusivity and incorporating ideas from all team members.”

The second #WICWeek feature was with ConstructUtopia who conducted a Q&A with women in the construction industry including Rose Rodriguez, Director of Structural Engineering and Senior Associate in our Washington, DC office.

“I consistently feel that the inclusion of women often calms the waters. In addition to their technical talents and expertise, women bring value to the construction industry.”

In the article, Rose shared her story on industry passion, pains, and shifting perspectives for women in construction and design. In doing so, Rose described how she “felt it challenging, specifically when I was younger, to be heard. I felt that as a young woman, I was expected to listen; and when I spoke at meetings I was often talked over. This is less common now. I suppose I also have more experience to lend to discussions, but I think it’s fair to say that the industry has become more accepting of women over time.”
