Spurred by a developer’s interest in purchasing the aging City Hall, the City of Dilworth engaged BKV Group to evaluate its municipal facilities and develop a phased plan for renovation or replacement. The first project is a replacement fire station on the existing site, funded through a combination of federal, state, and local sources.

Client: City of Dilworth, MN
Type: Fire Station
Size: 15,470 SF, four double-deep drive thru bays, paid-on-call with 4 bunks

Designed for a paid-on-call staffing model, the station prioritizes efficient response with direct access from public streets to parking, gear storage, and apparatus bays. The facility includes four drive-through bays with capacity for a future fifth. Administrative offices, a large training room, and kitchen, dining, and dayroom spaces are located at the front of the building, with patio access supporting decompression and team interaction. Two bunk rooms and a flexible multi-purpose room allow for future expansion of sleeping accommodations.

Apparatus support spaces include a shop, SCBA room, decontamination/tornado shelter, gear storage, and general storage, with a mezzanine above for additional training and storage. A three-story hose and training tower serves as a community landmark, while durable precast panels with brick insets provide a timeless fire station character.
