BKV Group provides electrical engineering design for housing, commercial, government and educational facilities. Our engineering team works closely with our architects and designers to integrate sustainable systems into the design of new and renovated facilities, promoting energy conservation and occupant health. We design smart daylighting, energy-efficient lighting and controls, as well as electrical infrastructure, power distribution, communication, and emergency power systems for our client’s projects.
Mechanical and Environmental Systems
Energy use, health and comfort, as well as total cost of ownership are key drivers of our mechanical design philosophy. The BKV Group mechanical engineers examine many factors to develop sustainable HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including impacts on natural resources, energy-efficiency, and building occupants. Our goal is to design safe, healthy, and comfortable indoor spaces for clients in residential housing, commercial environments, public buildings, and industrial facilities.
Structure and Analysis
The BKV Group structural engineering group has extensive design experience with buildings constructed of steel, concrete, masonry and wood, and steel stud wall systems. From new building construction to historic preservation and rehabilitation, our structural team develops solutions that are adaptable, durable, and minimize environmental impact. Our engineers analyze all aspects of structure, including foundation systems, wind and seismic requirements, building envelope, and orientation to create safe and environmentally conscious solutions for our clients.

Director of Electrical Engineering
Chad Kurdi is our lead electrical engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the electrical industry. He brings in-depth understanding of electrical power systems, lighting systems, technology systems, and safety and security systems to each project. Over the years, he has worked as an electrical engineer, electrician and electrical trainer. His electrical engineering experience includes engineering, designing, and specifying and analyzing electrical and low-voltage systems for different building types and occupancies. His projects have included police stations, fire stations, government buildings, jails, senior living, memory care living, student housing, affordable living, historic buildings, hospitals, data centers, sport arenas, water/wastewater treatment plants and commercial buildings. Chad is a licensed Mater Electrician in Minnesota and is currently serving on the Minnesota Board of Electricity, a position appointed by the governor of Minnesota. He is an active member in IEEE, IAEI, and MEA.

Charlie Robinson has many years of experience in structural engineering, including structural design and analysis of steel framed structures, timber, cold-formed metal framing, reinforced masonry, reinforced concrete, retaining structures, deep and shallow foundations, and the analysis, assessment, and renovation of existing structures. His expertise extends to many different project types, including multi-housing, municipal buildings, business centers, and many others. He is an excellent problem solver with an outstanding ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly.

Alex Sawka is skilled in offering innovative mechanical design solutions to projects. He is a highly motivated and resourceful individual who interacts productively with people from diverse backgrounds. Alex is a natural problem solver and an innovative designer. His designs promote maximum efficiency while requiring minimal maintenance. He also has experience with projects in many different housing markets, including multi-family housing, student housing, and hospitality.

Bill has more than 30 years of experience in mechanical systems design. He brings seniority, extensive experience, and proactive design approach to the mechanical engineering discipline of BKV Group. His experience includes work in housing, retail, hospitality, commercial, healthcare, higher education, and government projects. Bill has also been at the forefront of energy efficient design for the majority of his career.
