Originally built in 1936 for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this 118,000-square-foot building sat vacant for years. In 2021, Carmel Partners acquired the property with BKV Group providing the Conceptual Design for the redevelopment.
Carmel Partners enlisted the design expertise of BKV, Design Collective Inc., and Champalimaud Design for the adaptive reuse of the the 1936 building.
BKV carefully analyzed all the existing exterior facades to determine three different historic zones in the building.
The project is heralded as a prime example of how government buildings can be repositioned as the federal conversion trend builds momentum.
