Over the course of the past year, the larger Kansas City metro area has witnessed a boom in new development — and, most notably, redevelopment. One such project as highlighted in Kansas City Business Journal’s “Biggest Real Estate Stories of 2024” was our collaboration with SomeraRoad Inc. for the West Bottoms Redevelopment.
The West Bottoms, Kansas City’s original downtown with the 1860s arrival of railroads, was long considered a development frontier. It didn’t attract investment at scale until SomeraRoad set out plans to create more than 1,200 apartments, 168,000 square feet of office and retail, a 50-room boutique hotel, and public green spaces over a 15-year window. Uniquely, eight of its 13 private projects are historic conversions that will collectively revitalize an entire industrial corridor into a vibrant, active neighborhood.
