Blending sustainable innovation with operational efficiency, BKV is setting a new benchmark for public safety facilities that are resilient, adaptive, and environmentally responsible.
Now open in Gaithersburg, Maryland, BKV delivered full program validation, architectural design, and construction administration for the new 60,000 GSF, two-story Montgomery County District 6 Police Station that replaces the old facility to better serve a rapidly growing community. This facility marks Maryland’s first public safety Net-Zero building — and one of the first on the East Coast. It achieves Net-Zero energy through a rooftop microgrid featuring a 360 kW solar canopy that generates approximately 584,000 kWh/year, exceeding the station’s annual usage. With the capacity to support up to 178 staff and volunteers, the station houses investigative units and the Central Traffic Unit, while thoughtfully incorporating a public meeting space designed for engagement, collaboration, and dialogue with the community.
