Job Description
BKV Group seeks a Structural Engineer II with 5-10+ years’ experience as a licensed professional to join our growing team in Georgetown. Ideally, we are looking for someone with related experience in all aspects of design and documentation with leading edge multi-family housing, commercial and local government clients. This position reports to the Director of Structural Engineering in DC and supports the structural engineering and design of diverse and complex projects across the United States. Projects may vary in scope from $10 – $250 million with challenging Urban and Green sites. BKV designs frequently include high-rise concrete and steel, historic renovation/restoration, seismic design, mid-rise cold-formed steel, post tension slabs, deep foundations, pre-cast elements, and conventional wood framing. Responsibilities include the following, and others may be assigned:
- Analyze different engineering systems to determine best fit for the owner’s needs in coordination with the Director of Structural Engineering and/or Senior Structural Engineer.
- Confer openly and directly in a respectful and professional manner with all colleagues to develop, clarify and resolve innovative design solutions across all disciplines. Responsible for the design process coordination of the engineering discipline with the other discipline leaders on assigned projects.
- Responsible for the technical accuracy, preparation and completeness of comprehensive plans, schedules and details, utilizing Revit and other required software for the structural construction documents and calculations as required at each phase of the project.
- Prepare calculations and designs for engineering systems and detailed drawings for review by Director of Structural Engineering.
- Provide mentorship for Engineers in Training and Designers working on assigned projects.
- Responsible for completing work in a timely manner on assigned projects within the budgeted hours as supplied by the Director of Structural Engineering or Senior Structural Engineer.
- Must be proficient with the IBC and ASCE 7 building design codes as well as material specific design codes for cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete, cold formed steel and structural steel. Wood and masonry design are a plus.
- Maintains appropriate records and files on assigned projects.
- Maintains a free flow of communication with the Structural Discipline Lead/Director of Structural Engineering, Senior Engineers, Managing Partner, and the Project Manager on assigned projects, as well as other team members relative to the activities on assigned projects.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university. MS degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineering license required.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the general public.
- Working experience with RISA 3D/Floor, RAM Steel, ADAPT Floorpro/Edge/Matt, Enercalc, Woodworks, Ramsteel, and Microsoft Office Suite. Revit experience preferred.
Compensation range: $125,000-$135,000 annually, or commensurate with experience.
