Once again, BKV Group is attending the annual EDspaces Conference in Houston, Texas where Interior Designer, Madeline Hilby, represented our firm in multiple forums focused on empathetic & inclusive design.
To lead things off, Madeline (second from left) co-presented with fellow emerging designers in one of the event’s specialty spaces as part of The American Institute of Architects (AIA)’s Committee on Architecture for Education. Their exhibit, titled “Bridging the Gap: Promoting Socialization & Hands-On Learning in Middle School Classrooms,” examines the unexplored portion of a student’s development that serves as an important transitional period between elementary and high school. Through the use of John Dewey’s Principles of Education and Vygotsky’s Theory of Cognitive Development, the team created a fully built concept that promotes comfortable socialization and hands-on, interactive learning through scaleable interactions. Madeline also participated in Kay-Twelve’s “Better Learning” Podcast, guest speaking on how we can radically center students and children in our design work. During the episode, Madeline highlighted our recently completed Kaposia Library, and the community engagement strategies that allowed our designers to intimately understand everyone’s different lived experiences.
